About Artist Savannah Jacob

Savannah Jacob is an illustrator based out of Indianapolis. Savannah holds a BFA in Drawing and Illustration from Herron School of Art and Design. Savannah is a Herron Ambassador, 21st Century Peer Mentor, and the recipient of the DJ Simone Scholarship. She has optimized her time as an undergraduate at Herron by working in the School Wide Shop and developing her understanding of tools and process-based work.

Organic shapes, and green tones of nature have captivated her interest and gained her unwavering admiration. The most impactful and efficient way she expresses such feelings are though artwork. A vast majority of Savannahs work involves portraying the natural world in a visual way that is accurate to her perception. Many of her illustrations coincidentally pertain to the harmful effects of climate change.  Savannah uses illustration a vehicle for activism. Many people find words like “greenhouse gases, and carbon emissions” to immediately register as complex or irrelevant to them. Through artwork Savannah strives to make the understanding of what climate change is and how it impacts humans, animals, and nature accessible to all.

She has addressed the “climate gap,” endangered species, melting glaciers, and single use plastics through illustration. Savannah has allowed each of the latter illustrations to serve as opportunities to educate herself in depth about each issue and to then share said information via visual imagery. She has expanded upon her skills as a traditional illustrator in screen printing, digital drawing, hand building, and ceramics. In efforts to further inform her climate activism illustrations, she has taken multiple courses over global warming and environmental solutions at IUPUI. Though her love for organic shapes and green as a metaphor has become much more dire now that her artwork gravitates toward the preserving of earths longevity, she still finds pleasure in creating artwork inspired by natures intricate wonders.
